When you get too low, pull up and flap to get back up. You can also keep flying horizontally much, much longer on water. There's a stream vod somewhere that explains the mechanics in depth, could try and dig it up for you. It's a hell of a mount, seems like something from a singleplayer game. Infinite learning curve.
Tries to fly under bridge or through tunnel, smashes into the top/bottom of it. Tries to gain altitude, hard lands on ground instead. Tries to use griffon and mount leap mastery to get up to high place, misses place and crashes into area way lower down, proceeds to spend way too long trying again before giving up and resorting to springer/skyscale.
